Ever wondered what you DON’T know about your airplane?
Every thought about buying a plane and wondered where the weak spots are?
Where do you look for a consolidated list of structural issues affecting your airplane?
What caused the accident that killed stunt pilot Bob?
What tends to break if you fly your biplane aggressively?
It’s time to put an end to the lack of candor and disorganization of aircraft mechanical and structural matters. We are losing friends because there is not a consolidated, easily accessible listing, by type aircraft.
Every aerobatic airplane has issues of some sort. We have a duty to publish what we learn as we use the airplanes. Some of us have been hesitant to publish anything due to fear of getting out of sorts with the manufacturer.
This has to stop now.
For the last year or so, a team of folks have been working on a solution to this problem. The desired result is to provide a forum in which aircraft owners, users, engineers, and mechanics can post information about mechanical and structural issues, and the associated fixes. The forum will allow the writer to remain anonymous, or not. The content is sorted by aircraft type and problem thread. Pictures can be posted. Moderation will be limited to offensive or unrelated content.
As issues are identified, they will no doubt be debated. Pilots, mechanics and engineers who do choose to identify themselves will help the reader determine the accuracy of posts. As with the exploder, there will be” issues”, but in the end, the reader will be able to sort out the matters relevant to the machine he/she flies, and will be safer as a result.
Once we have established this forum, it is my hope that CIVA will assume responsibility for it. It needs to become a tool used by pilots and mechanics throughout the world, and it should not be limited to aerobatic airplanes. It’s mind boggling to imagine how far this might go and how many lives it might save.
Soon, anyone, anywhere, anytime will be able see a detailed discussion of every problem for every aircraft type. Wow.
I am writing to ask you to help me raise the money to make this happen. It begins with IAC – which has agreed to match every dollar I raise up to $3000.00. With your help, we can launch this platform NEXT WEEK.
We’ve lost so many friends to stupid mechanical issues. Please take a minute and pull out your checkbook and write a tax deductible check to IAC, and mail to me at the address below. If you can afford $500.00 please send it. If you can afford only $25.00 it will be most appreciated, and you will be a part of something that may save your live and the life of more than one friend.
Thanks so much for your help!
My best regards to you all,
